open to hikers, horses,
mountain bikes,
motorcycles, ATV’s, and
jeeps.  They are typically
winding and steep with
large rock steps and so
are often very difficult for
horses, mountain
bikes, and motorcycles.
Difficulty Rating 1 through 5 –
1-Stock Vehicle – no body damage - stock tires
2- Stock Vehicle – body and undercarriage damage possible
3 – Modified Vehicles advised (lockers and lift).  Body damage possible.
4 – Modified Vehicle advised in dry / required in wet – Advanced 4x4 skills recommended.  Body damage likely.
5 – Modified Vehicle required – Advanced 4x4 skills needed.  Body damage likely.
East 97 Liberty Trails - 318, 319, 320, and 321
4W318 FIRST CREEK JEEP TRAIL
RATING – 2 dry / 4 wet (prepare to winch)
MILES – 2.5
Elevation Low – 3600’
Elevation High – 4200’
Gain – 800’

Trail Access -
This trail is accessed from the 4WD320 or 4WD329, usually from the Liberty (Williams drainage) area.  For directions, refer to 4WD319.

Description –
This trail is part of a relatively dense network of jeep/ATV trails in the First Creek area. Carry an ORV map, and watch the signing on the
ground closely.   It connects to and crosses most other trails in this area. It is narrow, tight and technical with several hillclimbs.  
4W319 CRYSTAL RIDGE
Adopted by - Hurtin’ Units in 2005
RATING –   lower half is easy - 2 / middle is 2+ / end is 4
MILES – 7
Elevation Low – 2800’
Elevation High – 4500’
Gain – 1700’

Trail Access –
From Highway 97, turn onto the Liberty road.  At 1.5 miles, turn right on Forest Service Road 9726. Camping is available on the right.  
For trail access continue on 9726 approximately 1 mile, then turn right on spur 115 which leads to the start of this trail, as well as
4W321. NOTE: 9726 and 9726-115 are open to ATV’s as well as street-legal vehicles.  Use caution on the road.

Description -  
This is a three section trail that eventually ends at FS Road 3500 approximately 1.25 miles below Lion Rock.  This is the main trail
which links the Table Mountain area with the Liberty system.
The first part is rated as a 2 when dry and a 3 when wet.  It is technical and very brushy and includes one hillclimb which is very
challenging for ATV’s. After 1.5 miles, it crosses road 9726 and intersects 4W321.   The second part is a very long and steep climb
which takes you to the Crystal Mountain viewpoint.  Pay close attention to the carsonite signs through this section as you can easily
turn off the main trail.  Take time to park and hike to the Crystal Lookout as the views are spectacular.  After reaching Forest Service
road 3507, turn right and follow the road ½ mile before continuing up the trail (this section of road is open to ATV’s). The last section,
from FS Road 3507 to the top is rated as a 4.  The trail ends at the razorback staircase.  To access FS Road 3500 from this trail, you
must go up the staircase.  This is extremely difficult, challenging, and recommended for advanced drivers and riders only. This third
section is included in the Table Mountain seasonal closure October 15-June 15.
4W320 HIDDEN GULCH
RATING – 2
MILES – 1.5

Gain – 400’

Trail Access –
Accessed from the 319.

This trail is a short trail that links 4WD319 with 4WD318.  It is a wide, scenic tree run.
4W321 PIT OVERLOOK
RATING – 1 dry, 2+ when wet.
MILES – 2.7
Elevation Low – 2800’
Elevation High – 3600’
Gain – 800’

Loop trail with 4WD319, right off the Deer Gulch Road.  Fairly flat trail, scenic, run through rock shale.  It run through trees, and has a
couple of hillclimbs. Ends at the 319. ATV’s looking for a moderately easy loop can take this trail, then return to Williams Creek camp
area on road 9726.
