Howard Creek Trail #1372

Open to: Hikers, horseback riders, mountain
bikers, and motorcycle riders.
Trailhead Access: Take Highway 97 to
Blewett Pass, go south on FS Road 9716 to
FS Road 9712 about 4.25 miles past Haney
Meadow and to the trailhead.
Setting: High plateau, stream, large old-
growth trees, sage and grass meadows,
clearcuts.
Directions: The trailhead is at the highpoint
of the trail. From here the trail descends
along the headwaters of Howard Creek,
crosses the creek, climbs to a bench,
passes through several 1970’s-era
clearcuts, crosses FS Road 3530 and
continues west to its end at junction with
Naneum Creek Trail #1381.
Old Ellensburg Trail #1373

Trailhead Access: Take Highway 97 to
Blewett Pass, go south on FS Road 9716 to
FS Road 9712, then go east on 9712 to
Haney Meadow, and continue 0.25 mile to
trailhead.
Setting: Meadows, old-growth trees, riparian
zones.
Directions: From FS Road 9712, the trail
crosses Naneum Creek, skirts Haney
Meadow, continues through a low saddle,
descends to and crosses Howard Creek,
then climbs to trail end at Grouse Springs
and Grouse Spring Trail #1371.1.
Naneum Creek Trail #1381

Setting: Meadows, old-growth streams,
riparian zone.
Trailhead Access: Take Highway 97 to
Blewett Pass, go south on FS Road 9716 to
FS Road 9712, then go east on 9712 to
trailhead near Haney Meadow Campground,
which may be used as a railhead since this
is a horse camp.
Directions: From FS Road 9712, the trail
descends along Naneum Creek, passing
through meadows and patches of timber to
naneum Meadows. The trail skirts along the
endge of the meadows, then climbs to a
bench, continues past Grass Camp Trail
#1219 and Howard Creek Trail #1372 and
descends to Road 3330. This is the south
terminus of the trail.
First Creek Trail #1374

October 15th to June 15th
Trailhead Access: From State Highway 97
about 8 miles northwest of Ellensburg, turn
east on Smithson Road, then north onto
Green Canyon Road, then west on Reecer
Creek Road and follow it west and then
north to FS Road 35. Continue on 35 up
Table Mountain to spur road 124, which
leads to the upper trailhead at Lion Rock
Campground. It can also be accessed from
FS Road 3507 via Road 35.
Setting: Alpine meadows, subalpine forest,
creek valley, forest, meadows.
Parking and Facilities: Lion Rock
Campground has parking for the upper
trailhead (and a toilet). The lower trailhead
has roadside parking for 3-4 vehicles.
Directions: Begins on the south side of the
little campground, and heads downhill. The
trail is relatively gentle, but it is difficult to
find as it passes through several sage
meadows. There are large blazes on trees
on each side of the meadows, and rock
cairns through the meadows. There are
several springs and small streams near the
trail that are good for stock water. After two
miles, the trail hits First Creek 4W318 and
turns left onto it for a few hundred feet
before turning right off of it and continues
downhill along First Creek to FS Road 3507
where the lower trailhead is.
